Former chief inspector of hospitals Sir Mike Richards has been appointed as a non-executive director on the Department of Health board alongside four other senior figures.
Also appointed are Sir Ron Kerr, former chief executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, and Professor Dame Sue Bailey, chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and former president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Kate Lampard, a former barrister who led the NHS investigations into Jimmy Saville’s links with the NHS, also becomes a non-executive director. She was also chair of the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority.
Michael Mire, chair of the Land Registry and a senior independent director at the Care Quality Commission, is also joining the board. He was a senior partner at McKinsey & Company.
Already on the board is Gerry Murphy, who joined in 2015 and is a non-executive at Dixons Carphone.
Health minister Philip Dunne said: “We are delighted to welcome our new team of non-executive directors who bring with them experience and knowledge from different spheres to support us as leaders of the nation’s health and care.
“They will join Gerry Murphy who we are pleased to reappoint to his role. We will be encouraging their involvement in priority issues for the department and wider system. I look forward to working with them all and to their contributions to departmental board.”
