STP appoints third leader in two years

Hertfordshire and west Essex STP have appointed Deborah Fielding, chief executive of West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, to lead the STP full time.
Ms Fielding will take over the position from Mr Cahill next week.
Mr Cahill said, “the time is now right to hand over the reins to a full-time leader so that the full potential of the partnership can be reached”.
Mr Cahill started in the role in October 2016 for two days a week. He is very well respected within the NHS and was the HSJ Awards’ chief executive of the year in 2017.
He will return to working full time at his trust but said a “key part” of his role would be to continue to lobby for good mental healthcare across the STP.
Mr Cahill took over the STP leadership from Beverley Flowers, accountable officer for East and North Hertfordshire CCG. She stepped down in August 2016 due to concerns about the time needed to carry out the role. Ms Flowers held the role for six months.
Ms Fielding said there was “a long road ahead” to realise the STP “vision”.
She started her career as a nurse at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and worked as a midwife and health visitor before moving into health service management.
