Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust
Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust was established in 1994 and acquired Foundation Trust status in February this year. The Trust is dedicated to the provision of a range of specialist mental health services to people of all age ranges across Norfolk and the Waveney area of Suffolk. We cover a population of some 950,000 people. We also provide forensic services to the whole of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Since April 2004, through partnership agreements with Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, the Trust also has responsibility for providing social care services to people of working age across its catchment area. The Trust employs approximately 2,300 staff and is therefore a significant employer within the region.
Many of our services, especially in-patient services, are centred around the city of Norwich, the coastal towns of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft in the East and Kings Lynn in the west. However, our staff also provide a range of services in a variety of settings and community locations throughout the catchment area. This reflects the complexity of our services portfolio, which spans the urban and rural nature of Norfolk and North Suffolk.
We work in partnership with other statutory and non-statutory bodies that provide services to people suffering mental ill health. The Trust’s main commissioners are NHS Norfolk (previously known as Norfolk PCT), NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney and the East of England Specialist Commissioning Group, the latter being responsible for the commissioning of forensic services.
At any one time 14,000 people living with mental health illness are receiving support, care and attention from the Trust. These illnesses can range from short term stress and anxiety, to intermittent or longer term illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or drug and alcohol misuse.
