NHS Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust

We are a unique primary care trust, proud to be different and with big plans for the future. As well as aiming to be an outstanding commissioner of health services, we have recently become the only trust in the UK to incorporate mental health and community services, an acute hospital and an ambulance service. And our progress is set to continue.

Naturally, we are the sole provider on the island; in addition to the central hospital site of St Mary’s, Newport, we provide a comprehensive service including a variety of health clinics and community bases across the island from which many of the trust’s services are delivered. After all the resident population of the island is approximately 129,000 and doubles in the holiday season with the island receiving approximately 2.8 million visitors each year.

Employing approximately 3,000 staff, the trust is committed to personal development. We offer in-service training, and provide access to clinical supervision and professional support as well as allowing staff the benefit of strong links with Southampton and Bournemouth Universities.

As well as the professional benefits you will gain from working with us, the island is a beautiful place to live and work. With more than half the island an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the island is sure to awaken your senses. And with over 1,000 yearly festivals, carnivals, concerts and other events, the island is far more than a retreat from the pressures of the modern world. Combine this with the chance to join a trust that is exceeding many national targets, and you’ll see the Isle of Wight is much more than a tourist attraction. It’s also a great place to develop your career.

What’s more with ferries running round the clock, 365 days a year from Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington and ferry times less than 35 minutes, getting to and from the mainland is easy. And even once you get here you’ll have no problem settling in as we have short-term accommodation on the Hospital site, giving you the time to find just the home for you in our character towns and villages. Assistance with relocation costs may also be available.
