The European Respiratory Society is the world’s leading forum dedicated to alleviating suffering from respiratory disease and to promoting lung health through research, sharing of knowledge and medical and public education. Headquartered in Switzerland and with offices in the UK and Belgium, the ERS is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1990 with members in over 100 countries. Its scope covers both basic science and clinical medicine and its membership comprises individuals working in the field of respiratory health ranging from medical practitioners, clinical scientists, researchers and allied health professionals, such as nurses, physiotherapists and technologists.

With a prestigious reputation in scientific, clinical and academic circles the ERS seeks to promote the advancement of respiratory health through scientific meetings, congresses and influencing at the highest levels of government, international organisations and the pharmaceutical industry.

We are now looking for a highly capable Executive Director to lead the Society to the next phase of its development. Working closely with the President and Executive Committee, you will provide leadership and management across the full range of ERS activities ranging from publishing, professional education and policy development and advocacy.

With a strong interest in people development and organisational effectiveness, you will need to have ability to work in a complex international stakeholder environment and support the governance of ERS activities through working collaboratively with the Executive Committee and President.

Your credentials:
– A highly credible, collaborative and inspirational leader, able to command credibility and to constructively engage with external and internal stakeholders
– A demonstrable track record of linking strategic direction with operational practice and performance, with good resource planning and organisational skills

– Highly developed interpersonal and diplomatic skills for influencing change, managing complex situations and sustaining engagement from staff, elected officers and our growing membership
– Strong leadership and management skills, able to drive motivation and performance from our highly dedicated and professional staff
