The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) is a leading orthopaedic centre of excellence. A specialist hospital with a reputation for innovation, the Trust provides a comprehensive range of musculoskeletal (bone, joint and tissue) surgical, medical and rehabilitation.

The organisation is a single site hospital based in Oswestry, Shropshire, close to the border with Wales. As such, the Trust serves the people of England and Wales, as well as acting as a national healthcare provider. It also hosts some local services which support the communities in and around Oswestry.

As a hospital, our overriding objective is to deliver outstanding patient care and we pride ourselves in the standards we achieve and in the feedback from our patients on the quality of our services.  We are one of the most highly rated hospitals in the CQC Friends and Family Test, with 99% of patients rating their care as “excellent” or “good”. Overall patient experience at RJAH was ranked as the best in England in the 2016 national In-Patient Survey.

We have made good progress in relation to our governance and delivery of our key access standards, which led to NHSI removing our breach of licence and we continue to improve and, in 2016-2017, achieved a financial surplus. Part of our ongoing strategy is around continued growth, improving our organisational culture and supporting service redesign and our long-term plans to deliver our vision in conjunction with our partners in the local health economy.

Vital to the next stage of our journey will be our new Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development. You will play a key role, working with other board directors, to transform our workforce and ensure that it is fit for the future. In order to support our clinical and operational colleagues in our improvement journey you will strengthen our leadership capacity and capability at every level in the Trust to enable staff to respond to change positively and flexibly.

This reshaped and expanded role will be responsible for developing and shaping the organisation’s culture, the structure and performance of our workforce, all organisational design and development and wider HR strategies that underpin our strategic direction, and support the successful transformation of services across the region enabling our staff to deliver safe and compassionate care of the highest quality to our local community.  You will also play a full role as a member of our talented and ambitious board team, contributing to our wider strategy and playing an influential external role on the Trust’s behalf.

An experienced senior HR and OD professional with previous NHS experience, you will currently be operating at director or deputy director level but will have the credibility to operate at board level. You will have a track-record of providing exemplary HR leadership and delivering strategic organisational cultural change and improvement.  This experience will have been gained within a large, complex organisation where the highest levels of customer care are a given, and you will be adept at working with and through a technically skilled and highly professionalised workforce to deliver excellent performance.

You will be attracted by the chance to become part of a forward thinking Trust that is on an exciting journey of transformation and improvement and be committed to providing the best possible care to our patients.
