With over 9,000 staff, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large healthcare provider for south west London, Surrey and beyond.

We provide healthcare services for local people, as well as specialist services such as cardiovascular, neuroscience, paediatric, and other tertiary services to a population of over 3.4 million people. We are also home to one London’s four Major Trauma Centres.

As well as acute hospital care, we provide a range of out of hospital services following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.

The challenges St George’s currently faces are significant. A recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection confirmed significant problems that need addressing, including with our estate at St George’s (Tooting), and our information technology systems.

We also need to strengthen our financial and operational performance, so enabling us to enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients. We are on an improvement journey, and we are making progress – but we don’t underestimate the challenge we face.

Following the successful appointment of our new Chief Executive and Chair, and ongoing processes to appoint a permanent executive board, we are now seeking a Director of Corporate Affairs to join our team.  Responsible for a broad portfolio including governance, secretariat, legal services, communications and public engagement, the appointed individual will set in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure the Trust’s ongoing improvement against national standards, whilst providing specialist advice across the organisation to support the effective management of clinical and non clinical risk and governance.  With a track record of operating in a similar role at board level in a large, complex and heavily regulated consumer-facing environment, the successful candidate will join us as a key member of our senior leadership team at a crucial time in our development, and will contribute fully to the formulation of strategy, policy and delivery of corporate and statutory objectives.
