Director of Workforce and OD
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales. With the stunning Snowdonia National Park at the centre of our area, we provide a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for a population of around 678,000 people across the six counties of North Wales. The Health Board has a budget of £1.3 billion and a workforce of approximately 17,000 serving three main hospitals along with a network of community hospitals, health centres, clinics, mental health units and community team bases. The Health Board also coordinates the work of over 100 GP practices and NHS services provided by dentists, opticians and pharmacists in North Wales.
As one of the Executive Directors of the Board, the Executive Director of Workforce & OD shares collective responsibility with all other Directors for all aspects of the Health Board’s performance. You will advise the Board on a range of strategic HR and OD strategies in order to drive transformational change in line with the Health Board’s Values. You will lead the Workforce & OD function through a strong senior team, ensuring that it serves the needs of clinical and non-clinical departments across the organisation and works in partnership with staff and staff representatives. Your remit includes leading the development and delivery of an Organisational Development Strategy to further develop the culture and values within the Health Board; and leading the development of workforce planning in line with financial and service planning, to ensure the workforce is fit for purpose. As one of the cadre of senior leaders within Wales, you will also contribute to the wider health and organisational agenda of NHS Wales and Welsh Government, including leading on national work on behalf of NHS Wales.
You would be joining an experienced but recently refreshed Executive team with appointments in the last 12 months, one which brings a fresh focus, energy and innovative thinking. As an experienced HR Director, you will be credible across all aspects of the workforce and OD agenda. You will need the personal credibility and leadership skills to make an impact across our complex organisation, and so your ability to project and to role model our Values will be essential for success. So too will be your ability to provide assurance at board level which requires sound judgement, the ability to prioritise, and experience of managing the performance of dispersed teams.
