Executive Director of Strategy and Integration

Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DTH) provides both acute hospital and community based health services. The Trust serves a population of more than 600,000 people in and around Southern Derbyshire and treats more than a million patients each year. Clinical excellence and compassionate care lie at the heart of what we do.

Based from two main sites - the Royal Derby Hospital, which incorporates the Derbyshire Children’s Hospital, the Derby Medical School and the new School of Health Sciences, is the newest hospital in the East Midlands and a busy acute teaching hospital. London Road is the Trust’s Community Hospital. With an annual budget of £550 million DTH is one of the largest employers in the region with more than 8,500 staff.

We’re an ambitious organisation and our aim is to be a national beacon for all that is best in the NHS and to deliver 21st century standard healthcare as part of a flourishing network with health and social care partners working to integrate care for our patients, and to deliver clinically excellent care within a financially sustainable system.

As part of this strategy we have developed a close partnership with Burton Hospitals FT and intend to merge at the beginning of 2018/19.  This proposal is progressing through the final phases of planning and regulatory approval at the moment.

A merger between the two organisations would help to retain a vibrant district general hospital in Burton, secure specialist services in Derby for a wider population, and ensure appropriate and relevant use of our combined community facilities.

If the merger is approved  the Executive Director of Strategy and Integration will lead how the two organisations join  as one, with a turnover of £800 million pounds and 12,000 staff, and be responsible for delivering the aims  of the merger business case.

In any event, to help us achieve our current strategic aims we are looking for an experienced Executive Director to play an influential part in our future success and to develop the framework to enable us to set a clear and focused strategic direction.

You will also lead our business planning processes working across health and social care economies encouraging the development of strong and trusting working relationships with commissioners, regulators, service providers and external stakeholders.

Joining a high performing board you will have personal credibility, professional gravitas, strong influencing skills and the ability to provide clarity of thought and strategic vision in a fast-paced, pressured, changing and demanding environment.

We are seeking someone who has strong commercial and business acumen, significant leadership experience and expert knowledge of strategic development both within and external to the NHS. You will have a solid track record at board level of leading large, complex change projects and teams to deliver comprehensive transformation and have a clear understanding of all aspects of governance and regulatory requirements.

We are seeking the sorts of skills, experiences and personal qualities that would have already marked you out as an exceptional professional, someone who can align their evident intellectual abilities to our PRIDE ambitions (PRIDE - Putting Patients First, Right First Time, Investing Our Resources Wisely, Developing Our People, Ensuring Value Through Partnerships), and a powerful change agent who can comfortably operate at board-level in a high-performing teaching hospital Trust.

In return we can offer a unique opportunity to be part of an amazing organisation that has an impact on the lives of many, at an exciting time of change and to help form and deliver our strategic direction ensuring we remain a highly effective and successful provider of healthcare services.
