The King’s Fund is an independent charity working to improve health and care in England. The Fund works to shape policy and practice through research and analysis, helping to develop individuals, teams and organisations to promote the better understanding of the health and social care system, and to bring people together to learn, share knowledge, and debate. Income is derived from a mix of investments and services paid for by the NHS, the voluntary and public sectors, and from other commercial sources. 2016 expenditure was circa £15 million.
The Chief Executive is responsible for leading the Fund to deliver on its strategic objectives. He or she will be accountable to the Chair and Trustees and will lead an experienced senior management team to maintain and develop a clear vision and strategy for the Fund and to set its future direction.
Candidates for this high profile, important and influential role will be experienced thought leaders with the authority to operate at the very highest level and a reputation for policy development at a national level. They should ideally possess a good understanding of health care systems in the UK. Experience of leading and inspiring an already high-performing workforce to achieve ever greater results will be important, along with the excellent presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
The King’s Fund has always played an important role in shaping health care policy for the good of patients in the UK. The new Chief Executive will continue to lead the important work of the Fund during one of the most challenging times for health care delivery in the UK.
