Mersey Internal Audit Agency (MIAA) is a highly regarded, award winning and ambitious NHS shared service, hosted by the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust, delivering internal audit, assurance and advisory services to the NHS and wider public sector. Due to the impending retirement of our current Managing Director, Tim Crowley, a great opportunity has arisen to lead MIAA into the future.

Established in 1990, our principles and values have remained constant, but many aspects of our business have changed. Competitive acquisition and merger, client retention, and diversification of services have all combined to deliver sustained growth across a client base that is now greater in size than any other shared service provider in the sector in the UK. One exciting recent development is the establishment of two distinct divisions: MIAA Assurance and MIAA Solutions which reflects our distinct focus upon value-added assurance services alongside a growing capability and presence in the advisory market. The postholder will have the exciting challenge of building on the great foundations already in place to ensure sustained viability and deliver growth in existing and new markets.

A Management Board is in place that oversees strategic direction and members of the Board will be involved in the appointment process. Trust Board members comprise:

  • Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT)
  • Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
  • Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Applicants are expected to have a professional accountancy/audit qualification plus sustained evidence of post qualification, multi-functional experience (PQE), self-certified Continuous Professional Development and experience of operating at Board level and influencing Executive and Non-Executive Directors.  He/she will have substantial people leadership and strategic change experience and, ideally, a postgraduate management qualification to Master’s level.  It is also anticipated that applicants will have wide ranging experience of leading teams in a complex competitive environment, a deep appreciation of Health and Social Care policy, governance and assurance expertise, as well as a personal track record of designing and delivering advisory solutions.

In addition to a competitive salary you will be entitled to NHS benefits such as an attractive pension scheme and generous leave entitlements etc.

It is important that your application meets the minimum requirements of the person specification, as we will shortlist against these details. If you do not hear within 2 weeks of the closing date, you may presume that you have not been shortlisted on this occasion.
