Are you an experienced and ambitious Chief Nurse who wishes to make their mark on one of the country’s largest University Hospitals?  If you can engage, inspire and support our workforce to be their best for our patients then this role will be attractive to you.  Tracy Bullock has recently been appointed as our new Chief Executive and she is looking to complement our team of Directors with a new Chief Nurse who will have the drive and enthusiasm to take the Trust to the next level in our aspirational journey of excellence.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has an annual income of c£750m and over 11,000 dedicated staff operating across our two busy acute sites at Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital at Stafford.  We provide a wide range of acute and specialist healthcare services to our local populations in Staffordshire, South Cheshire and Shropshire and are also a Major Trauma Centre for a wider population of 3 million people stretching from Anglesey to the Peak District.

Our services represent more than half of the Staffordshire health and social care economy and we are working collaboratively through ‘Together We’re Better’ with our partners, commissioners and our public to integrate services, deliver more of these closer to home and create a sustainable clinical model for the future.  Our 2025 Vision sets out a clear aim to become one of the top university teaching hospitals in the UK and establish a world-class reputation.  We have made significant investment in services, research, facilities and our organisational culture and as a result our performance is improving, however we still have more to do to ensure this is sustained and to fulfil our ambitions.  We have been in financial ‘special measures’ since March 2017 and the recovery of this position remains a key priority.  Our recent CQC report indicated that we still ‘Require Improvement’ in several areas, however the professionalism of our dedicated staff has been recognised and we are proud of our rating of ‘Outstanding’ for ‘Caring’.

We are seeking an inspirational Chief Nurse to join our refreshed and energised Board to help further develop the Trust’s clinical leadership strategy.  You will be highly visible and provide clear professional leadership across the nursing, midwifery and allied health professional workforce. We have an excellent nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce and a strong leadership team who are committed to the delivery of excellent patient care.  The recent appointment of our professors in nursing further demonstrate our commitment to professional development, teaching and research and enhance our links with neighbouring universities.  Bringing your excellent interpersonal skills and sharing our values, you will create clear, transparent and robust improvement systems that support the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse leader who is working at Board level currently and is capable of handling a complex and varied role.  In order to succeed you will need to have strong leadership skills, be driven, partnership focussed and committed to the delivery of high-quality care.

For further information or to arrange a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Robert Wright or Dr Melanie West at the NHS Leadership Academy on Tel: 0113 322 5672.
