Former ambassador appointed chair of merging trust
An acute and community trust has appointed a former UK ambassador as its new chair.
Dame Shan Morgan, who was ambassador to Argentina and Paraguay from 2008-12, will chair Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust from April following the departure of James Brent.
She will join RD&E on the day that – under current plans – the trust will merge with Northern Devon Healthcare Trust.
If approval is not granted for the merger by NHS England, Dame Shan will be joint chair of the two organisations.
Dame Shan has held a variety of roles with the Foreign Office and represented the UK at the European Union.
Prior to joining RD&E, she was permanent secretary to the Welsh government where she was responsible for a £17bn budget.
She said: “The South West is my home – it is a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the people of Devon.”
