A mental health trust has hired a new chair, who previously worked as its deputy chief executive and interim CEO.

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust has announced Paul Miller will take up the role in November.

He is a non-executive director at Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board and will step down from this role.

Mr Miller previously spent more than five years as deputy chief executive at AWP, from 2008-2014, and was its interim CEO for seven months. He was also previously chief executive of Velindre Trust in Wales and an executive director at Poole Hospital Foundation Trust.

More recently, he has been a non-executive director of BSW ICB since its establishment in July 2022.

Mr Miller will replace Charlotte Hitchings, who stepped down as chair at AWP in September. Brian Stables, non-executive director at AWP, will continue as interim chair until Mr Miller starts in November.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining [the trust]. I have seen first-hand the importance of service user and staff engagement in providing services and I am looking forward to working alongside staff and teams to continue the progress the trust is making.”
