Revealed: the best and worst NHS organisations to work at in every region

HSJ has analysed the 2023 NHS Staff Survey results to reveal the best, and worst, trusts to work at, according to their staff.

More than 700,000 staff responded to the survey between September and December last year. 

Each list shows the percentage of staff who said they “agree” or “strongly agree” with the statement “I would recommend my organisation as a place to work”, for each year between 2019 and 2023. They are broken down both nationally and regionally:

• The best and worst acute trusts to work at
• Revealed: The mental health trusts recommended by staff
• Staff survey: Community, ambulance and specialist providers recommended by staff

Nationally, across all provider types, 61.1 per cent of staff said they would recommend their trust as a place to work – up around 4 percentage points since 2022, and at a three-year high, although still down on the 2019 score of 63 per cent.
