Finegreen are working in partnership with a NHS Foundation Trust within Greater London. This is an excellent opportunity for a Ward Manager to join their Private Patients Unit.

This role is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week and you will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern. The salary is competitive (Band 7) depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.
  • To work weekdays with occasional weekends and/or nights to monitor quality of service throughout a 24 hour period.
  • To take overall responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the Quality & Safety boards and daily monitoring of planned vs actual staffing levels. 
  • To monitor and ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to improve patient care. 
  • To be responsible for the supervision and development of all staff including student nurses and support workers, providing support, advice and training.
  • To effectively manage the ward resources, i.e. pay and non-pay budget, human resources, the clinical environment and inclusive of beds where appropriate.
  • To ensure compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for all nursing staff.
  • To act as an effective role model and mentor promoting excellence through practice.
  • To act up for the Matron when necessary.

The Ward Manager will be working closely with the Matron and the Senior Matron and demonstrate clinical expertise in practice for at least 80% of time in own clinical area. The ideal candidate will be responsible with the matron for carrying out risk assessments according to the Clinical Governance / Clinical Risk Strategies.

The Ward Manager will establish effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and to take a lead in weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting at ward level and to work with the bed managers, ensuring optimal bed allocation.

The successful candidate:
  • Must be a Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration;
  • First level degree;
  • Evidence of post registration qualification relevant to specialty;
  • Mentorship qualification;
  • Substantial post-registration experience in area of specialty;
  • Evidence of teaching junior members of staff & assessing students in practice;
  • Proven evidence of improving the patient experience;
  • Current experience of line management of staff;
  • Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence;
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues e.g. handling complaints, clinical risk management;
  • Ability to problem-solve, prioritise and to work to deadlines;
  • Ability to motivate staff and improve individuals and team performance;
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi professional teams;
  • Able to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to ensure that patient needs are met;
  • Able to lead, manage and motivate others in complex problem solving and assessment skills.
