The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is building a new future for the provision of acute medical care for the half million people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid-Wales.

We currently have an opportunity for a Head of Assurance to join us in our journey and oversee the Trust’s Corporate Governance agenda to ensure that our governance processes are robust and that the Board is assured that any risks to its strategic objectives are being well managed.  You will be working with a highly professional workforce to lead the delivery of governance leading to great patient care.

It is also a particularly good time to join the Trust as we are currently working in collaboration with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle. We were one of the first UK trusts to receive this support from one of the safest hospitals in the world and we are 3 years into a 5-year journey. As a senior health care professional, you will have the chance to work directly alongside the representatives from the VMI within our hospitals.

The Role and Department

If you have relevant experience in corporate governance, leading a team and working at a senior management level, a positive outlook and commitment to personal and professional development we would like to hear from you.

To succeed in this role you will have expert knowledge of corporate and clinical governance, clinical audit and risk management and have strong leadership skills and the ability to develop  strong working relationship skills in order to influence implementation of the Trust’s governance strategy.  Understanding of the CQC Well-Led domain would also be an advantage

You will also lead the Trust’s Communications and Community Engagement agenda as well as overseeing our important work ensuring we are a good corporate citizen to minimise our impact on the environment and work with partners to further develop this work


We are ideally located between the north and the south, making travelling around the UK extremely easy. As well as being only a short distance from major cities and busy transport links including Birmingham airport, our county also borders with beautiful mid-Wales which is abundant in outdoor activities, brilliant beaches, and thrilling scenery.
