Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of acute hospital care to the largely rural communities of West and North Dorset, Weymouth and Portland. A high performing Trust with a turnover of £171 million, services are provided in GP surgeries, schools, residential homes, people’s own homes, Dorset County Hospital and five community hospitals, by a workforce of around 3,000 employees.

As an Executive Director of the Trust and voting member of the Trust Board, the COO will provide leadership to enable the Trust to deliver its corporate objectives, ensure its long term clinical and operational viability and enhance its reputation as a successful NHS Foundation Trust. 

Reporting to Patricia Miller, the CEO and the Board you will: 

  •  Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Dorset health and care system and as the Trust lead for clinical service integration and Trust transformation champion develop appropriate service models to secure the progression of the Dorset Integrated Care System. 
  • Support and develop divisional operational management teams to deliver high quality care, meet key operational performance standards and sustain an “outstanding” rating by regulators. 
  • Act as executive lead for emergency and resilience planning, decontamination and medicines management. 
  • As an executive director and voting Board member, work with colleagues to develop Trust strategy and ensure its successful implementation. 

You will need to demonstrate a successful track record of operational delivery in a large and complex NHS or equivalent organisation either as a director or a deputy who is ready to step up. You will also have the presence, skills, experience and personal drive to make a significant contribution to the corporate agenda in the Trust and across the wider health and care economy. You must enjoy being part of a high performing team, have personal values which align with those of the Trust and the wider NHS and be strongly motivated by the opportunity to contribute to improving healthcare in this beautiful part of the country. A “can do “attitude, the ability to inspire and motivate staff and support and encourage innovation are essential, as is a passion for excellence.
