Chief People Officer

£ Competitive

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is a leading provider of acute, specialist cancer and non-acute services to over 600,000 people across east and north Hertfordshire and parts of south Bedfordshire. We employ nearly 6000 members of staff based across four locations and have an annual turnover of around £420million.

We are a well led organisation with a strong culture and positive values and we are looking for an exceptional Chief People Officer; an innovative, collaborative, values-driven leader with an abundance of drive, energy, commitment and resilience who can help our organisation to deliver on its strategic objectives around the people agenda.

The Trust is focused on tackling the types of challenges facing many providers of NHS services currently; in particular how to reconcile financial pressures with increasing demand whilst improving quality and patient experience. In response to this our organisation has invested heavily in and is working hard to implement quality improvement methodologies and continued service improvement initiatives to ensure that we are clinically and financially sustainable for the future and the Trust’s new Chief People Officer, alongside an energised and focused executive team, will be key to our success.

Pivotal to our improvement journey will be our staff and the new Chief People Officer will work hard to strengthen and modernise our workforce to ensure that it is fit for purpose for the future. You will implement all workforce and organisational development strategies that underpin the organisation’s strategic direction and support the successful transformation of services whilst maintaining our strong organisational culture. You will continue to engage with our external partner organisations, develop and forge strong working relationships, and work externally in continuing to position our organisation as a key player within the wider health and care system.

You will be joining an organisation with an excellent track record of nurturing staff and developing personal performance for continued career success and, as well as taking responsibility alongside the CEO for the development of the executive team, this role will also require you to be an inspirational leader in engaging and developing staff at all levels.

This role may suit someone who is already an established director keen to join a successful organisation, but we would also welcome applications from strong deputy directors who may be looking to secure their first executive-level post. Either way, in order to help the Trust achieve our strategic priorities, you will need to demonstrate considerable HR leadership experience within a complex environment alongside a strong track record of delivering innovative workforce solutions with the ability to influence key stakeholders and utilise successful partnerships across organisations to deliver effective outcomes..
