Job Details

A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint an operational management specialist to work within their Surgical Care Division for a period of 3 months initially.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Responsibility for the delivery of the full range of services including the development of efficient and effective systems, policies and procedures; 
  • Effective management of waiting lists in line with national and local policy and guidance ensuring that access targets are achieved
  • Assist the Division in the delivery of activity to achieve Service Level Agreements and
  • associated income targets; 
  • Ensure compliance with national guidelines and statutory regulations covering all
  • aspects of services within the Specialties; 
  • Support the SMT and Operations Director in all aspects of the Division’s management as a full member of the Division Management Team as required
  • Work as part of the overall team in the implementation of annual Specialty Service Delivery Plans incorporating activity, access, financial investment and efficiency savings, workforce,
  • clinical governance and controls assurance targets, ensuring that the plans can be
  • delivered within existing or planned resources; 
  • Plan and achieve continuous performance improvement by pro-actively benchmarking performance with both internal and external comparators and by seeking out examples of best practice which might be introduced into the Division; 
  • Job planning with consultants including rota management for anaesthetics. 
A successful candidate will have:
  • Proven track record of working well under pressure with tight schedules, changing and conflicting priorities and numerous deadlines with frequent interruptions whilst managing services; 
  • Working on own initiative with minimal management support to achieve critical
  • Trust objectives; 
  • At least 2 years’ experience of operational management in an NHS acute setting, ideally within a surgical setting including accountability for a significant budget.
