Do you have the skill, experience and appetite to lead a major complex transformational change programme across the totality of health and care in Kent and Medway? If so, you may be the person we are looking for to work alongside system leaders and Chair the County’s Programme Board and the Non-executive Oversight Group.

With miles of incredible coastline, rolling countryside, lively seaside towns, diverse communities and easy access to London and Europe, Kent and Medway offers huge potential for personal and professional achievement. Add to that a real commitment to innovation, integration and transformation of health and care services, plus the ambition and aspiration to be the best in the country at what we do - this could be the start of something special!

Our Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) sets out our expectations to transform health and care services over the next five years to achieve the highest levels of health and well-being for decades to come. It will help us deliver the NHS long term plans, which set out the national vision and expectations for health and social care in the 21st Century and will have lasting benefits to the county’s 1.8million resident population.

The Kent and Medway STP is work in progress. It describes what needs to be done to transform care: to bring about improved wellbeing and prevention of ill-health; to deliver the best standards of care; and to be able to attract and retain the best clinical and professional staff across all services and deliver financial balance.

We are looking for a leader: an exceptional individual to chair the STP Programme Board and the Non-Executive Directors Oversight Group; an individual with the zeal and vision to lead our Board, alongside the Chief Executive, and help us realise our ambitions.

The post does not require any NHS or social care experience, although experience of working as a Chair at a senior level in the public sector would help. The post does require the ability to quickly develop an understanding of the complex framework in which the NHS and social care is operating and the considerable challenges it faces. You will need an excellent understanding of strategic organisational change at the highest level within a dynamic external environment and significant leadership experience, at corporate board level gained in a large organisation over many years.

Your background should include executive-level experience in research and academia, commerce, or major organisational change. You must be committed to putting patients and carers at the heart of decision making and to excellence, openness, transparency and good governance.

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. We believe that the best Boards are those that reflect the communities they serve. We particularly welcome applications from women, people from the local black and minority ethnic communities and disabled people who we know are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles.

Closing Date: COP 8th February 2019
