NHS Business Services Authority

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) is an Arm’s Length Body of the Department of Health and Social Care. Experts in managing healthcare information at scale, we oversee £35 billion of NHS expenditure each year, delivering a wide range of critical professional and operational national services that support the wider NHS.

Our purpose is to be a catalyst for better health and to make a positive difference for the wider benefit of the NHS and society as a whole.  Our portfolio of services includes NHS Prescription Services, NHS Dental Services, NHS Pensions, Help with Health Costs and Overseas Healthcare Services including the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Last year we added NHS Jobs and NHS Electronic Staff Record (ESR) to our portfolio.

Our revised strategy for 2019/2022 reinforces our aspiration to grow as a business, with a focus on supporting the national agenda of workforce, technology, prevention and data, as well as delivering the NHS Long Term Plan. We will continue to explore and build relationships to work collaboratively across the NHS, particularly with our key partner organisations NHS England/ NHS improvement, the NHS Counter Fraud Authority and NHS Digital, but also with other organisations to enable us to have a bigger impact across the whole of the health and care system.

This is an exciting time to join the NHSBSA to lead our business and our colleagues to deliver our strategy.

Due to the planned retirement of our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), we are now seeking a new CEO to develop the NHSBSA further and ensure our continued success. The successful candidate will be innovative, forward thinking and a strategic influencer who will effectively lead and empower a senior team to deliver our strategy, and to continually grow our reach and impact to achieve our vision of becoming the delivery partner of choice within the NHS.

Our new CEO will be an inspirational and visible leader, passionate about working in the National Health Service with an understanding of the environment that the NHSBSA operates within. With substantial experience of leading at board level, they will have first class communication skills with the ability to form positive collaborative relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, ensuring our customer is always at the forefront of everything we strive to achieve. Our people are the key enabler to our success, and the CEO will drive forward engagement with their people ensuring we are an employer of choice.

This is an immensely rewarding role that will provide a number of opportunities to make a positive difference to our customers, colleagues and society as a whole. If you are interested and ready to lead and take forward the NHSBSA, please visit www.odgers.com/71483 for application instructions, or contact us on 020 7529 6314 quoting the reference CAG71483.

The closing date for applications is Friday 8th March 2019.

Assessment centres will be held on 19th, 20th and 21st March 2019 in Newcastle (candidates will only be required to attend one of the dates) with final interviews on Thursday 11th April 2019 in London.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact the current Chief Executive, Alistair McDonald at alistair.mcdonald1@nhs.net or on 0191 203 5206.
