North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is a busy and complex organisation covering a population of more than 2.71 million people, employing more than 2,500 staff including volunteers.  Our teams deliver an Unscheduled Care Service for emergency calls, a Scheduled Care service for pre-planned non-emergency patient transport, and the NHS 111 service for the region.  We also deliver specialist response services through Hazardous Area Response Team units, comprised of specially-trained paramedics who deal with major incidents.

The front-line services are delivered from 55 stations across the North-East region.  In 2016 we were rated by CQC as ‘Good’ across all aspects of our performance, and this rating was maintained in our 2018 inspection.  We are increasingly a key system participant in the future shape of healthcare in the North East, giving this role an important strategic dimension and ensuring that the leadership requirements of this role are demanding but rewarding.  

First and foremost this is a leadership role.  To continue the cultural and clinical improvement in the service we a require strong, visible leader with a clear sense of purpose.  We also need to ensure consistency with other ambulance trusts and the wider healthcare landscape in the quality of service provision and we need to continue to develop a patient-focused culture where all staff, whatever their background and role, feel supported, valued, listened to, empowered and involved.

With experience at Executive Director level from a healthcare provider or a similarly complex organisation, you will bring visible and values-led leadership, and you will champion the benefits of system-wide collaboration.  We are looking for a chief executive with passion, vision and drive to shape our strategy, inspire our staff and build effective external relationships.
