Main Purpose of Role:

The purpose of this role is to win new subscription business for HSJ Intelligence (HSJi) across the pharma, med-tech and private sectors (consultancy, I.T, private healthcare, legal, outsourcing orgs etc).

HSJi is an online subscription tool which helps companies understand the fundamental priorities and challenges of the NHS. We use HSJ’s unrivalled reach with senior NHS leaders to inform orgs of the key issues facing the boards of specific organisations which helps suppliers to identify and win more NHS business.

Job Description:

Objective: To win new business for the intelligence subscription service www.hsjintelligence.co.uk

The Business Development Director will be responsible for:

  • Reporting to the Head of Private Sector Sales
  • Development and implementation of a personal sales plan (with assistance from the Sales Manager) to meet sales targets.
  • Developing and effectively managing a successful sales pipeline.
  • Hitting KPIs – activity-based metrics e.g monthly client meeting quotas; exact details TBD during sales plan formulation as above.
  • Hitting sales targets. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Achieve (or over-achieve) revenue target and activity key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Quickly develop into an acknowledged expert on the HSJi service.
  • Commit to substantial level of learning about the NHS market place.
  • Developing strategy for prioritising the ‘low hanging fruit’ for quick, early wins.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with the incumbent HSJ Account Director team – who manage existing client relationships for retention and growth purposes – for mutual commercial benefit.
  • Work closely with marketing team to identify, message and approach best placed prospects.
  • Take ownership of quarterly and annual business plans with responsibility for accurate business forecasting.
  • Responsible for representing Wilmington Healthcare and the HSJ brand as a senior delegate at relevant exhibitions, conferences etc.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Proven track record of winning new business.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully employing a consultative selling approach.
  • A background in B2B information subscription sales.
  • Experience in healthcare.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Presenting at senior level.
  • Strong relationship building.
  • Proven ability to work successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to network well at all levels – internally and externally
  • Keen commercial nous – able to instinctively sort serious buying prospects from ‘time-wasters’.
  • An ability to identify client’s key business objectives and to sell to those needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educated to Degree level, or experience of that calibre.
  • Solid, new business sales experience.
  • Knowledge of the UK health care structure and impact of current changes on the healthcare industry.
