Job Details

A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Head of Midwifery. Leading and co-ordinating the implementation of the organisation wide Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of the midwifery services workforce development programmes;
  • Ensure delivery of department policies with special regard to infection control, privacy and dignity, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults;
  • Translate national policy for maternity services into local action and implement action;
  • Manage and support the development of the Junior staffing;
  • Ensure all midwifery staff within the service have objectives and personal development plans in line with an annual appraisal reflecting policy;
  • Regularly review the provision of maternity services, and in line with informed opinions, and information from women, children and families;
  • Initiate and encourage the development of programmes of midwifery;
  • Take the lead within the Maternity Services for ensuring workforce modernisation is aligned to service efficiency and improvement.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Substantial clinical experience as a practicing midwife; recent midwifery senior management experience;
  • Proven experience of quality improvement and clinical governance;
  • Understanding and experience of regulatory frameworks;
  • Good team member with a proven ability to lead, motivate, inspire and support a multi-professional team;
  • Sophisticated understanding of and risk management in relation to maternity and acute children’s nursing services;
  • Demonstrate coherent and detailed report writing;
  • Understanding the role of research and development activities and clinical effectiveness within the department;
  • Honest and positive attitude to enhance on culture of transparency and duty of candour.
