My client is currently looking to appoint an interim senior nursing professional specialising in LAC Safeguarding. You will join a busy but established team of senior clinicians for an initial period of 3 months. 

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert clinical advice on the continued planning, strategy and overall audit of quality standards in relation to health services for looked after children;
  • Monitor performance of local health services for looked after children and young people and review the patterns of health care referrals and their outcomes;
  • Provide advice to colleagues in health and children’s social care on issues of medical confidentiality, consent and information sharing in relation to looked after children;
  • Evaluate the extent to which looked after children and young people’s views are informing the design and delivery of the local health services for them;
  • Work with health and social care teams to ensure that the health needs of young people leaving care are met and transition to adult services is supported;
  • Work in partnership with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to advise on and support the development of care pathways that meet the mental health needs of looked after children; also SEND to support the development of care pathways that meet the needs of looked after children with a learning disability/EHCP;
  • Collaborate regionally with safeguarding professionals to ensure that there is a consistent and co-ordinated approach to safeguarding children practice across the health economy;
  • Work with providers on developing a data set to capture health needs and trends of looked after children.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Registered Nurse or Specialist Community Practitioner qualifications, coupled with significant post registration experience within Safeguarding Children’s/LAC environment;
  • Knowledge of current looked after children legislation and guidance, and of health and social care policies relating to this;
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people in potentially distressing and complex situations, plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively.
