Liverpool City Region has undergone a remarkable renaissance over recent years, with a rising population and economic growth, a burgeoning of high growth companies and a vibrant cultural resurgence.  At the same time, Liverpool experiences amongst the highest levels of poor health outcomes and health inequalities, both within the city and compared to the rest of the country.

The configuration of hospital services across Liverpool is highly fragmented with multiple providers, frequently leading to fragmented and variable care.  Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals NHS Trust, as the two acute provider trusts in the city, experience the challenges brought about by this fragmentation and duplication of services with the consultant bodies of both Trust believing that to improve health outcomes for our population can only be addressed through merging the two organisations.

This merger, planned for 1 October 2019, will bring together the two trusts, their clinicians and a unified governance framework to deliver high quality healthcare for patients across the city of Liverpool & beyond.  Supporting this merger is a greater vision for the city based upon the Knowledge Quarter, a £1bn+ innovation and business area with developments will attract clinicians, scientists and entrepreneurs to the city, generate wealth and increase employment opportunities.

A Full Business Case was agreed by the Trust Boards in April 2019.  We are now beginning the search for the Chief Executive, a process in which the new Chair, due to be appointed at the end of May, will be fully involved.  In the lead-up to merger, the Chief Executive will work closely with the existing executive teams and the Trust Boards to ensure transition and integration work continues. An early task ahead of the merger date will be to appoint the senior team for the new organisation.  Post-merger, the CEO will lead the new organisation to deliver the clinical, operational and financial benefits that underpin the merger, and to fulfil the role of system and civic leader.

We are seeking an exceptional healthcare leader with the appropriate experience, insight and personal credibility to lead a complex clinically-led merger and also to inspire and lead the new organisation.  This clinically-driven merger requires a CEO with an impressive track record of delivering clinical and operational outcomes through a values-centred approach.  With significant and successful leadership experience at a very senior level, you will bring communication skills that ensure you engage effectively across all areas of our clinical and non-clinical workforce, regionally with partners, and in national fora.

Closing date Monday 10 June 2019; final interviews early July 2019.
