A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Clinical Audit Lead. The post holder is responsible for the measure and continuously improve the quality of care that we provide.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of the day-to-day clinical audit function;
  • Line management and supervision of the Clinical Audit Team;
  • Ensuring effective management of recruitment, training, workloads, appraisals, sickness/absence and performance management;
  • Development of the organisation’s annual clinical audit programme, ensuring engagement with partners in accordance with agreed policy;
  • Assessing the organisations greatest clinical risk and planning for audit and improvement of these risks;
  • Inform audit and improvement projects and support the decision making of non-clinical colleagues;
  • Act as a methodological expert for clinical audit and quality improvement for the audit and improvement team;
  • Develop the role and understanding of clinical audit and quality improvement within the organisation, in collaboration with the Head of Clinical Audit;
  • Develop training packages, information resources, and promotional materials;
  • Deliver training and lead promotional campaigns;
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders as required, to facilitate an understanding of audit and improvement, and promote its concepts;
  • Develop audit briefs and undertake clinical audits in accordance with agreed policy and procedures, submitting data, writing reports, presenting the findings and facilitating changes in clinical practice as appropriate;
  • Work closely with the information management teams to ensure the information needs of clinical audit are met;
  • Assist in the production of the annual clinical audit report and plan;
  • Liaise with other health and social care partners to establish and implement the clinical audit programme as required;
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and data security is always maintained in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures, reporting adverse events in accordance with the Trusts Incident Reporting Policy.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the role.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Understanding of current government and NHS strategy and policy in respect of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, clinical audit and improvement;
  • Experience of leading audit and/or improvement;
  • Experience of leading teams of people and projects;
  • Ability to present information logically and concisely both verbally and in writing, including the ability to write reports and policies with clarity to ensure that complex messages are put across effectively;
  • Understand clinical information, e.g. performance indicators and targets, and to act on these as appropriate;
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and other appropriate computer packages;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills mature in outlook and flexible in approach to work with high professional standards and attention to detail;
  • Car driver and able to travel across the organisations, including at short notice.
