A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint an Interim ADO for Specialist Services for a 6 month period in the first instance. This is a key role within the organisation and experience in a senior operational role within the NHS is essential. This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8d.

Main Responsibilities:

  • A key member of the operational management team, responsible for the operational management and leadership of a designated service portfolio and associated budget;
  • In partnership with designated Clinical Directors, set the strategic direction for the service and direct the work of clinical service/nurse managers and staff, to achieve service goals and quality improvements for service users;
  • Drive the culture change necessary to ensure maximum employee engagement and focus on patient outcomes;
  • Initiate and lead service redesign and deliver changes to services which maximise patient outcomes and improves operational effectiveness;
  • Manage the budget for the designated service portfolio; achievement of all performance/cultural targets; delivery of the service portfolios annual business plan; maintains compliance with Trust policies, procedures and regulatory standards;
  • Preparation and presentation of reports for Trust Committee, sub committees and Trust Board which demonstrate compliance, achievement against performance targets, and effective risk management;
  • Key member of the Chief Operating Officer’s management team; contribute to the development and delivery of Trust strategy, business and service plans and objectives;
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, (including service users/carers), and strategic partners;
  • Lead and manage a senior management/clinical team;
  • Deputise for the Chief Operating Officer as and when required and necessary.

A successful candidate will have:

  • A Masters Degree or equivalent knowledge and skills;
  • Experience and knowledge of inpatient & community services;
  • Service quality and quality management;
  • Current changes and developments within the NHS;
  • Experience of leading teams, supporting and developing staff members and actively managing poor performance;
  • Strong experience of implementing change management, projects to develop or improve services;
  • Solid knowledge of business case preparation, presentation and implementation;
  • Programme / Project management skills and expertise.
