With an annual turnover of more than £960m and serving a diverse community of one million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the country’s busiest and largest acute hospital Trusts with a number of nationally and internationally respected services and a reputation for clinical excellence.

Following the departure of the current postholder (who will leave the Trust at the end of October), we are now looking to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer who is motivated to provide high level leadership and make a difference to the health and wellbeing of the population that our organisation serves.

Our new Quality Strategy – ‘Becoming the Best’, sets out our new approach and key priorities over the coming years and this will underpin the next chapter in our own organisational development, building on the Trust’s strong foundations and considerable potential. Our commitment to quality will be central to transforming how we provide services and deliver the outstanding care and experience that our patients rightfully expect. The incoming Chief Financial Officer will in turn be responsible for playing their part in enabling and driving this across the finance function and wider organisation through modelling appropriate improvement focused leadership behaviours and having a visible and hands-on approach.

This period will reflect our desire to develop new opportunities and continue to engage with and support the full potential set out in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Sustainability and Transformation Programme – ‘Better Care Together’. This activity will be underpinned by our clear values and strong commitment and accountability to the local population and their needs, and we will be flexible and adaptable to ensure that the care we provide is entirely centred on the patient.

Like many other organisations in the current challenging economic climate, our Trust has been experiencing some financial constraints; the underlying causes of these are fully understood, and a robust financial plan to address these and take the Trust into a strong, sustainable financial position has already been set in motion. At the heart of this plan is our aspiration to fundamentally change how we deliver care. As such the Chief Financial Officer will not only be an outstanding finance professional but will also be somebody who understands how robust financial performance can enable safe, high-quality services.

Proven at NHS board level, you will have the experience and perspective to contribute fully to the Trust’s business as a corporate leader. You will have the ambition to be part of a team that transforms our organisation and the way healthcare is provided to the local community, which extends to working with others across the organisation’s reconfiguration programme to see services consolidated onto fewer sites.

This is a truly exciting and pivotal time to join us as an Executive Director of the Trust Board and will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to make a real difference and ensure the delivery of safe and excellent patient care. The role would suit an established Chief Financial Officer keen to join a successful, innovative organisation, and is a role that goes beyond a traditional finance role with the opportunity to work externally beyond the walls of the Trust.

Candidates will ideally be working in an acute setting and will possess excellent leadership skills and a transformational approach that delivers sustained improvement and will be comfortable in dealing with organisational and system complexity. We are looking for an individual with a strong value-set; a dynamic individual who is passionate, open and supportive.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 29th July 2019 at 09:00am.

For further information or an informal discussion about the role please contact Dr Melanie West or Moira Johnston at the NHS Leadership Academy on 0113 322 5672.
