Job Details

A large NHS organisation is looking to appoint an Interim Service Manager for Surgery Services for a 3 month period in the first instance.
Experience in an operational management role within the NHS is essential. This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8a.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management leadership for operational services to ensure these are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible performance standards;
  • Lead on ensuring that all performance/quality targets are met;
  • Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly reporting on all service performance and supporting the Services in capacity planning to ensure sustained achievement of all targets;
  • Plan and manage the implementation of projects to modernise services and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans;
  • Lead on service redesign and workforce modernisation programme of existing service to ensure successful integration and alignment of new service;
  • Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action;
  • Lead on service transformation, overseeing significant and new service developments as required;
  • Ensure effective communication systems are in place right through the services and between and across multidisciplinary teams, where relationships are key to the delivery of safe, effective and timely care to patients.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Educated to first level degree or equivalent experience;
  • Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience at post graduate level;
  • Proven experience of working in a management/leadership role in an acute healthcare environment;
  • Experience of leading and motivating a team;
  • Leading service changes to improve performance and leading projects;
  • Identifying and interpreting national policy and implementing required changes;
  • Awareness of current legislation and developments and agenda within the NHS, particularly in relation to 18 weeks RTT.
