A large NHS organisation is seeking to appoint an Interim Cancer Manager for a 3 month period in the first instance.
This is a key role with the organization and experience in a senior operational management role within the NHS is essential preferably within Planned Care Services.
This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8b/Band 8c.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating the divisions to achieve the national cancer waiting times targets, embedding and integrating national cancer policies and standards into the day to day business of the organisation;
  • Establishing and managing robust monitoring systems, not only to provide information on past performance but more importantly on trends and future performance;
  • Leading the process for Cancer performance management of divisions through monthly and weekly monitoring and escalation meetings;
  • Escalating at the earliest opportunity issues that will affect in a detrimental way cancer performance and work alongside clinical divisions to ensure robust recovery plans are implemented;
  • Lead the Trust’s cancer strategy and ensure it is reflected in all business planning rounds by providing check and challenge through the process;
  • Manage the Trust’s cancer risk register and create action plans to mitigate risks;
  • Responsible for the management of the Cancer Services, MacMillan Wellbeing Centre budgets, including any transformational money;
  • Lead on designated projects (cancer performance and sustainability) across areas of responsibility to ensure effective communication and standardisation of practice;
  • Chair meetings as required across the Trust and the health community level, including the preparation of agenda, minutes and action plans as necessary;
  • Oversee the compilation of all agendas and papers for the Cancer Board and act as chair in absence of Lead Cancer Clinician.
A Successful candidate will have:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent level of experience or further training;
  • Management/leadership qualification at degree level or beyond;
  • Significant experience of leading and managing groups of staff within and across divisions in an acute Trust and working with staff from different professional disciplines;
  • Knowledge and experience of change management and service improvement methodologies;
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of current developments in the NHS in particular cancer and palliative care;
  • Significant programme and project management of major change programmes in the NHS;
  • Significant experience of identification of viable opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Cancer within an Acute provider and broader health and social care system;
  • Expert knowledge of NHS cancer targets, definitions and monitoring methodologies;
  • An understanding of demand and capacity issues and has an appreciation of the need to analyse capacity issues at both service and patient level;
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries and of delivering projects across multi-disciplined sites working with multiple stakeholders.
