Director of Operations – Urgent and Emergency Care

We’ve just been CQC rated as GOOD so this is an exciting time to join us at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital. We are part of a group of three trusts at Basildon, Southend and Mid Essex hospitals that are working in partnership with plans to become a new single NHS Organisation early next year. You could be part of helping to transform the future of care pathways and patient access for the 1.2m population of mid and south Essex.

It is with this ambitious programme in mind, that we are recruiting a Director of Operations for Urgent and Emergency Care to work alongside our Director of Operations for Planned Care. The role demands an experienced senior NHS leader to drive forward this all-encompassing operational and strategic change.

Reporting to the Managing Director the post holder will provide overall leadership to the implementation, development and effective operation services across the hospital.

The post will be site based at Basildon Hospital with opportunities to engage and work on projects across the network of mid and south Essex acute trusts. We see attracting new talent as key to our future and the scale of our greater organisation will give far more career, training and development opportunities for all our staff.

The post holder will work with the clinically led site teams to ensure the delivery of best patient care and high operational performance. This will involve working with local stakeholders and community services including the ambulance service, hospital at home, social services and GPs.

You will be an inspiring and credible operational manager with the energy, drive and determination to successfully respond to the changing expectations and needs of the NHS. To succeed you will need to demonstrate developed leadership skills and should have excellent interpersonal skills, which ensure you are able to empower and lead others to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care.

Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital is a large district General Hospital which also provides the Tertiary Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. It has a busy A&E which is in the top quartile locally and nationally for delivering the ED 4 hour standard. The area of South Essex is a good place to live and work with excellent commuting links to London. With good schools in the area and the pleasant and lively towns of Brentwood and Billericay, and surrounding villages nearby there are plenty of places to live and visit to suit all tastes.

For an informal conversation please contact Andrew Pike Managing Director or Fiona Ryan Director of Operations Planned Care on 01268 524900 ext 1301

Closing date is 29th August with interviews planned for 6th September
