Are you a Microbiology graduate with some good lab-based experience? A brand new role has been created for a Microbiologist to join the QC team of a leading Biopharmaceutical company in Worthing, West Sussex. If you are a recent Microbiology graduate with some experience in a regulated commercial environment (GMP/GLP setting - perhaps through a sandwich placement year) we would love to hear from you.

The company offers a generous salary and benefits pacakage, together with excellent training and a supportive, friendly working environment. Your working hours are 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday, though there may occasionally be the need to start earlier (earliest 7am) or later.

This is a permanent position and will be an excellent opportunity to progress your career with one of the most unique ad highly respected pharmaceutical companies in the country. You must be enthusiastic, motivated individual who enjoys undertaking lab-based responsibilities and is keen to develop a career within a unique and scientifically challenging environment.

The Role

This position is based around the methodical routine testing of drug ingredients and water samples, as well as aseptic environmental monitoring, particle monitoring, micro-organism identification and gowning monitoring, to support the complex production of liquid vaccines (oral and injectable), across both sterile and non-sterile GMP clean rooms. Using your background in microbiology to the full, you will join the friendly Quality Control team and analyse samples using a variety of techniques, logging all results on the in-house system and following GLP standards at all times.

As a Level II Microbiologist, you will take accountability for raising non-conformances, assisting in the training of more junior scientists and checking the accuracy of paper and computer-based records, as well as performing hands-on routine testing.

The Company

A pioneering UK-based Pharmaceutical company specialising in the development and production of sterile injectable and oral dose vaccines and diagnostic kits for people who suffer from life-threatening conditions. They have developed innovative treatments which will be of particular interest to someone with the ability to apply chemistry principles in a biopharmaceutical environment. There are around 250 employees in Worthing and the company has an excellent reputation for its welcoming atmosphere, staff morale and ongoing development.

Benefits

In addition to a generous salary (to discuss on application) the company offers the following:

25 days holiday + bank holidays
Private healthcare
Life insurance
Company pension scheme
Discretionary, non-contractual annual bonus
Experience

The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background (ideally a degree in Microbiology, or similar - e.g. Biotechnology), with some experience gained in a regulated lab environment. This role would be ideal for a graduate with a year's commercial lab placement experience, but we will also consider people with a lower qualification and more experience. You must have a knowledge of various Micro techniques (e.g. bioburden, endotoxin and other staining / micro-organism identification and quantification techniques) and general lab skills (e.g. microscopy), together with a genuine enthusiasm for your work. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team, together with the ambition to develop a career within Pharmaceutical QC
