The Finegreen Group are currently supporting Doncaster and Bassetlaw Healthcare Services LTD (the Company) in the recruitment of a Managing Director. The Company are a subsidiary of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Whilst the intention is for The Company to be part of the NHS ‘family’ and to share the culture and ethos of their parent, it will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary, adhering to its own legal and regulatory requirements.

The Company will take on the running of the Trust’s outpatient pharmacy, responsible for dispensing drugs prescribed to patients as part of outpatient activity. This is forecast to amount to 98,264 individual items per annum, with a value of £8.2m. Although the initial remit of the Company will be to oversee the outpatient pharmacy, there is potential for future expansion into other sites and potentially other service lines.

Reporting to the Company Chair, the Managing Director will work as part of the Company’s Board of Directors and will be responsible leading the development of the Company’s long-term strategic vision and objectives. They will be responsible for the day to day running of the business, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective services. The operational team will be run by a Superintendent Pharmacist, therefore is not required for the postholder to have a pharmacy background. What is more important is, the ability to successfully run and scale a business.

Suitable candidates will have extensive experience in the healthcare sector, excellent commercial skills and a good understanding of the NHS in terms of contacting and 3rd party service delivery. Candidates will need to have senior management experience and be confident and credible presenting at board level. They will be comfortable adopting a ‘hands on’ approach as they will be taking the helm of a start-up organisation with limited resource. However, this individual will also need the ability to horizon scan for future expansion opportunities and have the experience to lead any subsequent growth.
