Main duties and responsibilities

  • To be a first point of contact for members requiring advice and support in compliance-related matters, referring enquiries to other team members as necessary. The enquiries include (but are not restricted to), health and safety requirements, infection control and decontamination, requirements of the national regulators (CQC, HIW, RQIA and HIS) and inspections, and various associated matters
  • To work with other team members in the production of high-quality written advice for members in compliance-related matters and contribute to the development and maintenance of BDA advice publications and template policies and protocols
  • Monitor relevant advice and guidance issued by outside organisations pertinent to general dental practice and work with other team members in updating BDA advice accordingly
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the diversity of working environments within the dental profession, and the implications of implementing regulatory requirements
  • Work with other team members to produce compliance-related practice management articles for BDA publications and its website
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of seminars and workshops for dentists and practice staff on compliance-related issues
  • Represent the BDA at meetings with outside bodies and promote the services offered by the BDA
  • To undertake special projects as and when necessary
  • To maintain a current knowledge of the work of the BDA and the Directorate

This role MAY involve travel within the UK, from time to time.

 

Person specification

The following skills and attributes are essential:

  • A general understanding of compliance-related legislation with an ability to take a problem-solving approach to support dentists and their teams in general dental practice
  • The ability to summarise potentially complex issues concisely and clearly to produce high quality written material that meets the needs of a variety of audiences
  • The ability to communicate with professionals at all levels, including discussions and negotiations with external organisations
  • Excellent people skills with an ability to deal proactively and empathetically with members’ concerns
  • A commitment to providing bespoke, tailored advice and support
  • Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team to achieve shared goals, with a willingness to take the lead in a project and/or manage a project through to completion
  • A willingness to undertake presentations to large and small audiences with the ability to convey complex messages succinctly and clearly
  • Good IT skills on a variety of Office programmes
  • Experience of working in a dental environment with an awareness of health and safety and decontamination requirements
