Job Details

Now is the time to come and work for NSFT Children, Families and Young Person’s Service.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Trust has been successful in their bid to implement two new Mental Health Support Teams (MHST’s). This is in collaboration with NHS England and the Department for Education, following on from the 2017 Green Paper Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision. This is a roll out of the work to improve access to mental health care for young people set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.

MHST’s will provide mental health and emotional wellbeing support to children and young people and their families and carers through schools and colleges. Each MHST will support several schools and colleges, covering a population of around 8,000 children and young people. There is a specific focus on developing more access to helping and improving the general culture of emotional support within all primary and secondary schools. The focus will include supporting children and young people who are at risk of or who are excluded from mainstream education.  Working alongside community partners the two Mental Health Support Teams will be integrated with CYPF mental health services and educational settings.

The two MHST’s will be based in East and West Suffolk.

This post is for a clinical and team lead who will lead the two MHSTs teams which will each comprise of a community team manager, a psychological therapist, four Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP’s) and an administrative assistant. The MHST will work with education settings to provide early intervention on mild to moderate mental health issues and provide help to staff in schools and colleges. Teams will also act as a link with local children and young people’s mental health services.

The Trainee EMHP’s will receive their training through the University of East Anglia (UEA). The post holder will also have the opportunity to attend UEA for supervisor training and will link with other Team Leads in current and previous waves of MHST implementation across the country. The post holder will work closely with the Supervisors (who directly supervise the Trainee EMHP’s), to ensure that the team is a success.

We welcome applications from a range of core CAMHS professionals – Clinical Psychology, Systemic Family Psychotherapy, Senior Child Psychotherapy, Mental Health Nursing, Social Worker with significant CAMHS experience, with the requisite professional registration.

The role will help to oversee the delivery of clinical work within the project, ensuring that a wide range of evidence based interventions are used to support young people’s mental health.  You will provide clinical supervision and leadership to the MHSTs and will be involved with developing clinical operational processes for the delivery of clinical interventions in schools and provisions. For a full-time post holder there will be opportunities to carry a small caseload where you would provide comprehensive highly specialist assessments, risk management and interventions for children and young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties.

We are looking for confident CAMHS professionals with a demonstrable track record of providing quality evidenced based interventions. You will have knowledge, skills and experience of working across the range of complexity and severity in young people. In addition you will have significant experience of supervising clinicians and be able to evidence operational leadership skills and abilities.

This role will provide leadership and role modelling to the members of the East and West Suffolk Mental Health Support Teams ensuring that the service provided is high quality and person-centred. Your role will be fundamental in the founding and development of the MHSTs, and be a critical contribution to the transformation of local CYPF services to enable young people to receive the right mental health support at the right time.

The MHSTs will be based in East Suffolk, working across Farlingaye High School and its feeder primary schools and Alde Valley Academy and its feeder primary schools and West Suffolk working across Thurston Community College and its feeder primary schools and Mildenhall College Academy and its feeder primary schools. This position will require some travel to support the founding and implementation of this new service across Suffolk. This is an exciting time for children, young people and family mental health services and our Service is at the forefront of these developments.
