Job Details

We are very pleased to be recruiting to a Full Time Consultant Psychiatrist post to our Adult Learning Disability Community Team within the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Locality, part of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. This role would be ideal for an established Consultant Psychiatrist, however we would also welcome applications from newly qualified individuals. The post holder would be expected to be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Learning Disability Psychiatry (CCT) at the time of interview.

The post holder will have experience in the assessment and treatment of patients with a learning disability with or without co-morbid mental health presentations, be knowledgeable about evidence-based treatments, show leadership skills, demonstrate an ability to teach and have supervision skills. An aptitude to work collaboratively and respectfully in a multi-disciplinary team is essential.

The community team receives on average 8 referrals per month predominantly from local GP surgeries. The triage and assessments are generally carried out by Senior Learning Disability Nurses in the first instance.

The successful applicant will work closely with other full-time consultants working in other specialties and with the in-patient provision (based at Astley Court and managed by Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust), General Practitioners and with other community-based teams.

The Trust has a strong educational reputation with excellent opportunities for teaching and research. There are close ties to both the University of Cambridge and University of East Anglia. There is a very active teaching programme for medical students from the University of Cambridge. In addition, research is strongly encouraged and there is a well-established research network within the trust.
