Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust covering health care across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Your role will incorporate hepatobiliary clinics and endoscopy; out of hours GI bleed commitment as well as inpatient workloads, giving a wide variety to the working day. We can also offer a wide range of opportunity to innovate or develop your skills to include training in ERCP, EUS endoscopy, community transplant, teaching or research. All of this in dedicated job planned time.

The team comprises of 2 Hepatologists, a Hepatology Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialist Nurse, Community Viral Hepatitis Nurse, 2 FibroScan technicians, a well-embedded Alcohol Liaison service and a Nurse-Led Paracentesis team. We have an outstanding Radiology and Interventional Radiology department, with a cohesive Hepatobiliary cancer multi-disciplinary team and provide TACE locally. We are a fully JAG accredited endoscopy service in a recently refurbished unit consisting of 5 suites at the Royal Cornwall Hospital with a further suite at our satellite unit at West Cornwall Hospital. Both have a dedicated team, passionate about delivering care.

Our service is part of the South West regional Hepatology network, having strong links with the South West Liver Unit and Kings College Hospital. The South West Liver Unit provides assessment for liver transplantation and continues to work towards becoming a liver transplant centre. We maintain a National focus with representation on a number of specialist committees and are registered and committed to the Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS) scheme, working towards accreditation to acknowledge the high quality of care delivered by our service. We know where we’re going and we need inspirational and compassionate Clinical Leaders with the commitment to continue to develop liver services and bring exceptional leadership qualities to our cohesive and innovative team.

If you’d like to visit we can help you arrange a working ‘holiday’ to visit the hospital and meet the team. Travel and accommodation will be on us and we are sure that you’ll like it so much you’ll want to stay. We offer a £20k incentive package this is either paid as a lump sum when you complete a house purchase locally or in annual installments over 4 years which will help you and your family settle in our beautiful county.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life; in particular, it provides many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking and cycling.
