Managing Director (Northern Ambulance Alliance)

The Northern Ambulance Alliance (NAA) was first created in 2016 with the three northern ambulance services of the North East (NEAS), North West (NWAS) and Yorkshire (YAS) and in 2018 was further strengthened with a fourth partner in East Midland Ambulance Service (EMAS).  Recognising that we could achieve more by working together than acting on our own, the aim of the alliance is to collaborate to improve health outcomes and delivering greater benefits for the member organisations and populations we collectively serve.

The NAA has established a Board (NAAB) consisting of Trust Chairs and Chief Executives that focuses on agreed strategic priorities across the footprint of the northern ambulance services.   Five key work-streams have been identified as follows:

  • Digital
  • Quality Improvement
  • Fleet and Procurement
  • Workforce
  • Corporate Services

With the Board now firmly established and a number of collaborative projects completed, this is a truly exciting time to join the NAA as we embark on new phase of innovation. This role will play a key role across the Alliance and sector in the design, implementation and delivery of the NAA’s Transformation Programme, within the context of the national urgent and emergency care strategy and Lord Carter’s review into unwarranted variation in NHS ambulance trusts.

This role will support the NAA Board further develop the collaborative vision and objectives for the Alliance, identifying areas of opportunity and taking overall responsibility for the prioritisation and phasing of projects, overseeing the PMO infrastructure and governance arrangements to ensure all projects are working effectively and managing the overall programme resources and budget.

This role is not for the faint hearted, as you will be supporting the Board to deliver some of the most innovative and collaborative initiatives in the sector.  This will take determination and resilience and applicants must be able to demonstrate significant experience of complex and large-scale transformational change and experience in a senior leadership role, working in collaboration with other strategic and senior stakeholders. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent engagement, communication, influencing and persuasion skills with ability to build strong stakeholder relationships – internally and externally to engage, enable and sustain co-operation and delivery across a range of teams and disciplines to support large-scale transformation.

As a senior leader you will lead by example and demonstrate in all that you do the expected values and behaviours of the Trusts representing the Northern Ambulance Alliance, this means treating people with respect, dignity and compassion.

If this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you.  Full details of the role can be found in the job description and person specification attached.

Please be aware this role will require extensive travel throughout the NAA areas with some national travel also required.

Base location to be negotiated upon appointment
