Executive Medical Director

VSM - Competitive Salary (To be Discussed)

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation (NHFT) is a successful and high performing Trust. We were proud to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission in 2018 and 2019, including ‘Outstanding’ in the domains for ‘Caring’ and ‘Well-Led’. Also in 2018, NHFT won the Health Service Journal’s prestigious ‘Trust of the Year’ award. The Trust has embedded a culture of distributed leadership and staff wellbeing is a priority – it has been recognised for work in this area at the Healthcare People Management Awards, the Nursing Times Workforce Awards, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Awards in 2019.

The Trust employs more than 4,400 hardworking, dedicated and skilled members of staff and serves a growing, socially diverse population of close to 750,000 people. We deliver services from a large number of sites including hospitals, children’s centres, GP surgeries and clinics. We also provide secured healthcare services in Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Rutland, Staffordshire and Warwickshire, as well as in Northamptonshire. In 2018/19 the Trust had income of £216m, generating a surplus of over £3.5m which provides a solid foundation to enable investment in innovation as part of our organisational strategy.

NHFT have a formal ‘buddy’ relationship with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. This arrangement sees us not only share our Chief Executive, Angela Hillery but also thinking and best practice across the two Trusts. In addition to this we take a leading role in the county-wide Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership, with the vision of working closely with the other key health and care organisations to deliver and empower a positive lifetime of health, wellbeing and care in our community.

NHFT has developed an executive team that can lead the Trust in these most demanding of times. The team is focused on high performance and delivering both strategically and operationally, whilst being flexible and adaptive to the changing environment. The key driver is to achieve quality in everything we do whilst still providing value for money. We are now seeking to appoint a Medical Director to join this team and play a key role in our continued pursuit of excellence.

As an Executive member of the Trust Board, the Medical Director’s prime responsibility is to work corporately with other Board members in determining and delivering the Trust’s strategic plans; managing the organisation’s performance; and assuring good governance across all of the organisation’s functions.

A key element of this role will be to lead and drive forward the medical and dental agenda to meet the changing needs of the Trust and the NHS. You will be the Lead Executive for setting standards and providing professional advice to the Board on all medical matters. As Medical Director you will ensure the delivery of the Trust’s Clinical Strategy and provide strong clinical leadership to the Trust’s medical profession.

As a senior leader and an Executive Director of the Trust, you will inspire confidence through your knowledge and expertise. You will ensure, together with our Chief Nurse, that the Board of Directors keeps patient safety and quality of care at the core of strategy and decision making.

We are looking for an experienced individual who can work as part of our Trust Board and make a significant contribution in the areas outlined above. If you have the skills, experience and passion to join us on our continued journey, we will welcome your interest and application.

Company

We are dedicated to making a positive difference and to providing care with compassion. We deliver many of the NHS services that are provided outside of hospital and in the community, including physical, mental health and speciality services. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. Our care extends to people in the community, as well as in hospitals and clinics. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools.

Our values make up the acronym PRIDE and our mission is ‘Making a difference for you, with you’. These are part of the roadmap for all we do.  You can see a helpful overview of our roadmap here.
