Medical Director and Responsible Officer

Due to the retirement of our current Medical Director a rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Professional to join our Secondary Care Leadership team and contribute to the strategic growth of our business.  You will be working with a close knit team over a wide area of professional responsibility, within an innovative company with a track record of quality healthcare delivery.  At Care UK we are small enough to facilitate close working relationships, but large enough to make a significant contribution across many avenues of healthcare and have large diverse health delivery models.

As an accomplished Medical or Deputy Medical Director this role will allow you to develop your clinical career by combining the responsibilities of both Medical Director and Responsible Officer in a different setting, melding the requirements of good governance in an efficient business model. You will have a chance to use your medical and clinical expertise, ideally in anaesthesia, to provide strategic insight to the future of our Clinical development.

About the role

In this role you will provide highly visible and inspiring clinical leadership for all staff throughout HealthCare, championing a professional and open culture which empowers staff to consistently deliver high quality care with compassion. Supporting a multi-skilled, multi-disciplined and diverse clinical workforce to work as a cohesive operational group delivering first class treatments to patients.

You will have shared responsibility for strategic, governance, quality, productivity and operational decisions representing the patient at the highest level of the organisation at Board meetings, and developing and implementing Health Care’s vision, values and strategic objectives. You will provide advice, medical opinion and support on clinical matters including developing services to the Board. You will work with all pertinent stakeholders to develop new integrated care models including new business opportunities.

As Medical Director you will set an example of multidisciplinary team working providing leadership in all areas of clinical service.  You will work in partnership with our Chief Nurse to assure high standards of clinical practice and Governance ensuring policies to protect and safeguard patients and colleagues, manage medicines, and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.  Together with the Chief Pharmacist you will ensure medicines safety and implementation of safe prescribing practice. You will be working collaboratively across Primary and Secondary Healthcare with a leadership team affectionately described as the “jewel in the crown” of our business - comprising the local Hospital Medical Directors, Speciality Clinical Directors, Hospital Directors, Consultants, and GP Medical Directors ensuring that Health Care’s national objectives are met.

By providing professional leadership you will promote a culture of the highest quality patient focused care and ensure medical staff are constantly aiming to improve the care they provide and abiding by the criteria of the GMC’s ‘Good Medical Practice’.

In your role you will work with the relevant national registration bodies to ensure key specialty performance standards are exceeded and provide focus and leadership at key meetings of medical leaders with the hospital directors.

As Responsible Officer you will work collaboratively with the Medical Appraisal Lead and your office team to ensure there is an effective, integrated system for monitoring doctors’ performance, recognising good practice and encouraging and supporting development and learning that is closely linked with Health Care’s clinical governance structures and processes. You will also get a chance to work with our Primary Care service line team. We will also look to you to maintain our 100% appraisal compliance rates.
