Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of acute and specialist services to over 580,000 people across Worcestershire, and employs over 6,000 staff. With 954 beds, the Trust operates out of three main sites; the Alexandra Hospital, the Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, and the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, as well as operating services from a further three community hospitals.

It is an exciting time for our Trust, as the new leadership team ensures that we deliver on our purpose of Putting Patients First. Our new Clinical Service Strategy sets out a blueprint where we can make better use of our hospital sites, our beds, theatres, appointment slots and other capacity. We are addressing the staffing challenges that affect our ability to deliver sustainable services and are implementing new and improved ways of working. We will work with new and existing partners to provide the most effective services as close as possible to our patients’ homes. We will deliver better experience, better outcomes, at lower cost, and in a way that reduces health inequalities.

The role of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a pivotal role responsible for the overall development and leadership of the nursing, midwifery, Allied Health Professions (AHP) and Clinical Scientist workforce with executive accountability for quality, safety risk, clinical governance and patient experience. Through excellent leadership the CNO will enable the delivery of high quality of care in line with our vision, strategic objectives and 4ward signature behaviours. This means providing the best safest patient experience and best possible patient outcomes by putting patients first. You will develop a professional culture that supports, recruits, nurtures, develops and retains a compassionate, skilled and flexible workforce. This includes enabling diversity in all its forms, a culture of learning and improvement and an ability to lead service innovation and transformation.

We are seeking a values-driven and inspirational leader, able to evidence a track record of operating at Board level to lead and effectively manage change in large complex environment.  With an understanding of the current strategic and political landscape in the NHS; and experience of operating within such a context to balance the dual priorities of quality improvement and cost improvement, the appointed individual will demonstrate resilience and exceptional strategic skills.  Above all else, a commitment to working through others and across organisational boundaries in order to affect the greatest and most impactful change for the populations we serve will be imperative.
