Job Details

A large NHS organisation is seeking to appoint an Interim Head of Cancer Services for a 3 month period in the first instance.

This is a key role with the organization and experience in a senior operational management role within the NHS is essential preferably within Cancer Services.

This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8c.

Main responsibilities:
  • Managerial focal point for all cancer related aspects across the Trust and will plan, co-ordinate, manage and develop all aspects of Cancer Services for the Trust in accordance with local and national directives;
  • Work closely and support responsible Care Group Teams in the achievement of the cancer access and quality targets;
  • Senior Managerial responsibility for providing a strategic direction and for the development of cancer services within the Trust ensuring the Trust has a cancer strategy that will enable the achievement of the national cancer agenda;
  • Responsible for advising the Trust to ensure compliance with the National Cancer Strategy ‘Achieving World Class Cancer Outcomes’ Framework;
  • Ensure the successful delivery of the annual cancer quality surveillance programme;
  • Responsible for the operational day to day running of the Cancer services;
  • Responsible for the development of high quality, clinically effective patient centred services, ensuring these are delivered in the most cost efficient manner, through the effective leadership, management and deployment of resources.
Key Skills/Experience:
  • Master’s Degree level or equivalent qualification
  • Substantial experience, knowledge and proven track record of delivering cancer services, national indicates in an acute hospital.
  • Previous successful management experience, at a senior level in a large complex service organisation.
  • Proven successful track record in service improvement:
  • Leading and sustaining transformational change within a complex organisation;
  • Developing and translating business strategy into operational delivery;
  • Managing operating budgets and delivering financial surplus;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the National Cancer Agenda
