Job Details

A large NHS organisation is seeking to appoint an Interim Children’s Safeguarding Specialist for 3 – 6 months working full time and partly remotely.

Ensure provision of competent safeguarding practice throughout the organisation as stipulated in legislation and is underpinned in Regional and National government strategies.

Main responsibilities:
  • Specialist for advice and knowledge for all health professionals in relation to safeguarding children/CLA and continue to promote the welfare and safety of vulnerable children and young people;
  • Ensure the delivery of multiagency learning and developments are appropriately implemented within the organisation;
  • Support the organisation within clinical governance by ensuring that safeguarding issues are part of the organisation’s clinical governance system and informing the Board of safeguarding risks to the organisation;
  • Ensure high standards of safeguarding practice is delivered to Children and Young people at risk, in partnership with all members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team including statutory and non-statutory agencies;
  • Provide effective clinical leadership and Safeguarding supervision, and support and advise practitioners in fulfilling safeguarding responsibilities;
  • Apply advanced knowledge to critically analyse complex and sensitive case information within a multiagency context to promote positive outcomes for vulnerable Children, and their families who are engaged within the safeguarding process;
  • Identify appropriate interventions to be undertaken on review of the safeguarding evidence; Professionally challenge colleagues internally and externally, using appropriate escalation procedures where decision making is not in line with local/national guidance or standards for best practice;
  • Establish and maintain effective communication processes that comply with information sharing governance requirements, including being responsible and accountable for maintaining accurate and factual electronic in relation to Safeguarding vulnerable children, young people, and families.
Key Skills/Experience:
  • Must hold NMC Registration as RGN, RSCN, HV or MW;
  • Experience in providing and receiving Safeguarding Supervision;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of recent health and care guidance and legislative policy specifically in relation to Child safeguarding;
  • Experience in working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies with complex issues and in complex situations;
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills to communication effectively across all disciplines;
  • Can demonstrate assertiveness tact and diplomacy appropriately.
