An opportunity has arisen for an Interim Assistant Director of HR (Operations) to lead the delivery of all transactional people services within a London-based NHS Trust.

Working for a large NHS Trust in North West London. You will lead the delivery of all transactional people services including medical and non-medical recruitment, medical staffing, temporary staffing and employee relations.

This is a key leadership role within the People & Organisational Development Directorate and is part of the POD Senior Management Team (SMT). You will work closely with senior managers across the Trust to ensure delivery of the People Strategy’s objectives and the highest standards of POD operational performance, contributing to a highly performing culture across the organisation.

Main responsibilities of the role:
  • Lead the effective delivery and implementation and on-going delivery of the relevant People Strategy initiatives, e.g. embedding a strong, unique employer brand;
  • Implementing values based recruitment; delivering targeted recruitment initiatives and developing innovative recruitment solutions; ensuring streamlined recruitment processes that reduce time to hire and improve customer experience;
  • Ensure an efficient and business focused Employee Relations (ER) service that supports managers across the organisation in complex cases and meets agreed quality standards and metrics, e.g. investigation turnaround time
  • Ensure the reduction of agency expenditure across the Trust in line with plan
  • Develop recruitment strategies to target specialist or ‘hard to fill’ roles and diverse recruitment methods to address different needs within the organisation, amending plans and strategies as required based on evaluation and a quality improvement approach Ensure that all recruitment activity is implemented in line with NHS Employers Employment Check Standards, NHS Terms and Conditions of Service, Trust policies, and guidance from the CQC and Royal Colleges where relevant
  • Lead on all medical staffing issues for the Directorate at strategic and operational levels
  • To lead the implementation of the Trust’s People Strategy in relation to the key pillars ‘Attract and recruit for our values’ and ‘Building a productive, high performing workforce’ Ensure the provision of high quality training for managers in all relevant areas including recruitment and employee relations
  • To line manage the Head of Employee Relations, Temporary Staffing Manager, Head of Resourcing and Medical Staffing Officers
  • Manage the leadership of all HR (Operations) teams’ management and development expertise to deliver high standards using new and innovative approaches
A successful candidate will have:
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in the relevant area MCIPD, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive senior HR management experience in large, complex organisations, including leadership of operational services
  • Thorough and up to date knowledge of HR best practice, employment legislation and current thinking and developments in HR Significant experience of facilitating and managing change and complex employee relations issues Experience of project management in the design, development and implementation of change management
