Gambling is a serious public health issue in Great Britain requiring a clear strategy combining prevention and education, treatment and support. Official statistics estimate that two million adults are experiencing some level of gambling harm with significant impact on health and wellbeing, relationships, family and society.

We are a grantmaking charity using best practice in commissioning to keep people safe from gambling harms. This includes research, needs assessment, service planning, evaluation and outcome reporting to support effective, evidence-informed, quality assured prevention. We are registered in England, Wales and Scotland and although funded by the gambling industry, fiercely independent.

The recent pledge of up to £100 million from the gambling industry to fund treatment services for people experiencing gambling harm will enable us to continue to work in partnership with the NHS, public health agencies, local authorities and voluntary sector organisations to further develop the National Gambling Treatment Service, produce public health campaigns and to continue to fund ground breaking research. This is a significant time to drive forward our vital work and seize new opportunities and we need an innovative CEO excited by the challenge, with knowledge, passion and commitment to our ambitions.

You will be coming into a role which has a highly complex stakeholder group which requires a confident, consultative and collaborative approach. Exceptional relationship management skills and political nous, and the resilience to work effectively with public health, social care and regulators, the gambling industry and the wider commercial sector, will be essential for success. Strong business acumen and experience of commissioning and evaluation of performance and impact, ideally in a health or social care related field of work would certainly be an advantage. With strong strategic skills and operational know-how, you will lead calmly and decisively through ambiguity and change. A collaborative team builder and team player who can focus on building capacity in a wonderfully committed workforce – these are attributes that would do well in this context.
