A large NHS organisation is seeking to appoint an Interim Operations Manager for ED for a 6 month period in the first instance.

This is a key role with the organization and experience in a senior operational management role within the NHS is essential preferably within ED, Urgent Care and/or Acute Medicine.

This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8c.

Main responsibilities:
  • Responsible and accountable for overseeing the delivery of Emergency & Acute Medicine services.
  • Work to embed a service improvement focus into everyday practice across the care group.
  • Ensure that cross-Divisional working is managed proactively, including design and delivery of care pathways, and the Services are fully involved and engaged in a Trust wide system of working, policy and practice.
  • Work closely with clinicians in order to achieve optimal outcomes for patients.
  • Maintain focus and commitment to performance targets at all times.
  • Manage projects to successful outcomes.
  • Undertake a full range of management activities, both operationally focused and strategically directed, ensuring quality of services to patients, families and staff, including:
  • Maximising operational and performance management standards
  • Manage capacity and operational planning.
  • Develop strategies to cope with in year service pressures.
  • Manage the relevant budgets ensuring identification and full delivery of the SRCP target.
Key Skills/Experience:
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent
  • Substantial Acute hospital experience
  • Experience of operational management
  • Leading change in a complex environment
  • Proven capability to manage at a senior level (eg management of resources, priorities, personnel, problems)
  • Business planning and development of business cases
  • Experience in achieving a range of complex performance and financial targets
  • Proven ability to lead / manage a large number of staff including clinicians
