Job Details

A large NHS organisation is seeking to appoint an Interim Divisional Director of Operations – Women & Childrens Services for a 6 month period in the first instance.

This is a key role with the organization and experience in a similar senior operational management role within Women and Children’s services and the NHS is essential

This role will be remunerated under the NHSI Agency Caps at Band 8d/Band 9

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide visible operational leadership to the Division and promote continual improvement in quality, performance and delivery of Trust objectives
  • Lead the establishment of accountability structures within the Division ensuring that responsibility is delegated appropriately so decisions are able to be taken close to service provision
  • Lead, manage and motivate staff within the Division to deliver and improve services so meeting the needs of patients
  • Line management of Operations Managers and administrative staff within the Division, either directly or through delegated responsibility. 
  • Develop the business and planning processes throughout the Division to deliver services to required standards and within the available resource base
  • Develop processes for the entire Division Team to jointly manage the business, delivery and development of services
  • Ensure the efficient organisation of clinical and non-clinical services across the Division, making best use of capacity to deliver activity within the terms of the Trust Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and with cost effective utilisation of staff and non-pay resources
  • Review national and local policies and assess local service delivery against these - where necessary, develop and implement action plans with the clinical service providers to ensure service models meet recommendations and standards (e.g. National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance, Improving Outcomes Guidance etc.)
  • Develop patient pathways with clinical staff and colleagues in primary care, which deliver best practice and make progress towards achievement of wait time standards and milestones required

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience
  • Proven budget management skills and financial acumen with experience of delivering CIPs within an organisation with a  £multi-million turnover
  • Managing a diverse team
  • Negotiation and influencing skills at a senior management level
  • Evidence of delivering and implementing strategic plans
  • Presenting complex plans at Board level
