We are one the largest Trusts in the North East of England with a workforce of almost 10,000.  We provide community, acute and tertiary services to 1.5 million people in the Tees Valley, North Yorkshire and beyond, with a particular expertise in heart disease, trauma, neurosciences, renal services, cancer services and spinal injuries. We are a Regional Major Trauma Centre.

We are now seeking to appoint a new Chief Operating Officer to join us as a key member of the Trust Board and our Senior Leadership team.  You will establish and maintain relationships with clinicians, managers and partners which enable the Trust to operate effectively and to be focused on improving outcomes and services to patients. The post holder will lead on business planning, service delivery, and performance and assurance, leading clinical services to deliver and implement wider Trust priorities.

Reporting via our Managing Director Robert Harrison, you will be a credible and inspirational leader within the Trust, across our ICS and within the region. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership and performance management of the Trust’s clinical services, leading on the delivery of core performance and quality standards, including COVID recovery.  With the 10 Clinical Services responsible to this role for the delivery of key objectives, you will be expected to lead on key strategic changes in areas such as ED, patient flow and theatre productivity.

With a CQC action plan and a road map to Outstanding for the executive team to deliver, you will work closely with executive colleagues to improve the quality, safety and experience of patients in the Trust’s care.  The role is both fast-paced and challenging, and it provides the opportunity for an inclusive and compassionate leader to establish their reputation in the pursuit of improving patient outcomes for the communities we serve.

You will bring significant experience in managing acute clinical services within a complex healthcare setting, gained either at or immediately below board level. You will be a strong relationship-builder with the ability to manage competing priorities, lead others in meeting a range of performance targets, and bring the best out of people. Creative thinking, strategic initiative and influencing skills are what will set you apart.

We welcome applications from candidates from all areas of the communities we serve, and would specifically welcome applicants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds as it is very important as a Board that we endeavour to reflect the people we serve.
